Is There Nightlife in Killingworth, Connecticut?

Coastal Connecticut as a whole has a decent amount of nightlife, particularly in the beachfront communities that draw tourists in the summer.

These areas have bars and pubs that are open late into the evening in the warmer months, many of which host live music and other special events, as well.

Killingworth is a bit different from other sections of Middlesex County because it doesn't have ocean or river access. As a result, it doesn't attract beach lovers and other visitors in the summer, so it has fewer amenities.

Residents of Killingworth, CT, prefer it this way, though, because they can continue with their quiet way of life no matter the season without worrying about disruptions from the summertime crowds.

At the same time, there is a bit of nighttime activity in town for locals, as long as you aren't searching for anything too complex.

Here's a look at the nightlife that is available in Killingworth, Connecticut.

La Foresta Restaurant

For a classy night out, consider La Foresta Restaurant & Wine Bar. This venue is, first and foremost, an Italian restaurant with a menu featuring pasta, salad, seafood, lamb, pork, steak, and risotto. La Foresta might have the best food in Killingworth, providing reason enough to check them out.

The food isn't the only thing that's going on at La Foresta, though, as they also have the town's best wine list. In fact, there are 1,600 different varieties and over 10,000 bottles on the premises, so you'll never run out of things to try. You might want to do your research before visiting, so you know what to order because the wine list on their website is about 100 pages long.

You shouldn't feel priced out by the wine selection, either, because although there are some high-end vintages available, the menu also has plenty of moderately-priced options.

The wine and food are only a portion of La Foresta's offerings, as the venue has a bar area where you can sit and enjoy a drink. This part of the restaurant allows you to grab a stool and choose from their full bar menu featuring all your favorite cocktails, an incredible selection of bourbons, and domestic and international beers. There are televisions around the bar, too, so you can watch the game in style.

If you're planning an event, it's possible to rent out the restaurant's banquet room. This room doubles as a wine cellar and provides seating for up to 14 people. It's closed off from the rest of the venue, too, offering some privacy.

There's also an outdoor patio where you can enjoy your meal and some drinks in the summer, and La Foresta often features live music performances, as well.

Killingworth might not have much in the way of nightlife, but La Foresta makes up for many of its shortcomings.

The BarrelHouse

Although there's a lot going on at La Foresta, it isn't the only game in town.

That's because the BarrelHouse is a craft beer and wine bar that attracts locals all year round.

This bar has a rotating tap list featuring offerings from in-state breweries in Branford, Bethel, Hartford, Hamden, and many other locations. They also bring in beers from cities around the country like Seattle, Chicago, Boston, and Brooklyn. You never know what you'll find on tap at the BarrelHouse, so stop by often and don't miss out.

Taps aren't the only way to get a beer at the BarrelHouse, though, as they also carry a wide selection of cans and bottles from breweries around the country. Or, if you're more of a mainstream beer drinker, they have favorites like Coors and Bud.

The wine bar takes a more sophisticated approach, offering options from California, Oregon, South Africa, Portugal, Italy, Spain, and Austria, to name a few. You can try the wine by the glass, flight, or bottle, giving you the chance to sample a lot during your visit.

The BarrelHouse has a patio and a small kitchen with a limited food menu, as well.

The Thirsty Gull

Truth be told, the Thirsty Gull is a bit of a dive bar, not that there's anything wrong with that.

It's also a favorite with locals because of its simple pub-style menu featuring burgers, appetizers, soups, salads, pizzas, nachos, seafood, steak, chicken, and pasta.

You can also grab a beer, cocktail, or glass of wine at the Thirsty Gull while listening to a band on one of their live music nights or spending the night hanging out with friends.

For a pure nightspot, it doesn't get much better than the Thirsty Gull in Killingworth, Connecticut.

Moving to Killingworth, CT

It goes without saying that you won't be buying a home in Killingworth, Connecticut, because of its bar scene. The nightlife is relatively tame compared to most nearby towns, but that's perfectly fine with locals.

The nightlife Killingworth does have is inviting for those who live here and brings regulars back week after week for a drink or two and a solid meal.

The Connecticut Shoreline is full of activity, and although Killingworth is one of its quieter locations, there's just enough to keep its inhabitants happy.
